Managing Director, Barclays

Richard Cunningham is a Managing Director and member of the Senior Relationship Management team at Barclays, based in New York. Mr. Cunningham joined Barclays with the acquisition of Lehman Brothers in 2008 as the Head of Equities Distribution. Following the acquisition, he was actively engaged in combining the two organizations’ operations and re-establishing the Equities business across North America. He also led the build-out of the Equities division across the UK, Europe, Asia Pacific and Latin America. In this capacity, he served on the Equities Executive Committee, Americas Management Committee, Sales Management Committee and Global Partnership Committee. Mr. Cunningham also acted as Vice Chairman of the Global Diversity Council which was responsible for setting the diversity strategy of the Corporate and Investment bank.

Mr. Cunningham was born in Kenya and received his early education in the country before moving to the United Kingdom. In 2004, maintaining his strong ties to the country, he built a clinic in Msumarini to help provide medical services to the Msumarini villagers and those in the surrounding areas. The clinic was originally established to treat the villagers affected by the local Al Qaeda suicide bombing in 2002 and now services 60 patients daily.

He is a Board Member of the British Memorial Garden Trust, which was formed in 2004 to raise funds and awareness for the British Gardens in New York. The Gardens were created to honor the 67 British victims of the World Trade Centre attacks, while also celebrating the historic ties of friendship binding the United States and Britain.

Mr. Cunningham received his BA with Honors from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland.
