In 2021, SHOFCO impacted over 1.4 million lives across 13 counties in Kenya, delivering essential services and empowering communities in informal settlements. Despite the ongoing challenges of COVID-19, SHOFCO expanded its reach and deepened its commitment to community-led transformation.
Key Achievements:
- SHOFCO Urban Network (SUN): Grew to 247,624 members across 34 sites, promoting community savings, advocacy, and equitable access to services.
- Health: Administered 13,464 COVID-19 vaccines and reached over 97,000 patients through clinics, maternal health programs, and nutrition initiatives.
- Education: Supported 633 girls in free leadership academies, achieving a 100% high school matriculation rate.
- Sustainable Livelihoods: Trained 7,244 individuals in entrepreneurship, job readiness, and skills development, placing 954 youth in jobs or internships.
- WASH: Distributed over 2.5 million liters of clean water through innovative aerial piping systems.
- Gender Programs: Supported 3,042 survivors of GBV with response services and economic empowerment programs.
- Libraries: Served 126,637 users, offering safe spaces for study and literacy development.
