In 2025, SHOFCO's movement reached 2.5 million people across 75% of Kenya's counties. Kenya's youth landscape is a barometer of the nation's health, and against a backdrop of political uncertainty, a rising cost of living, and limited job pathways, young people organized, led, and authored real policy change. As Kennedy Odede reflects in his opening letter, this impact is rising organically from the ground up, driven by millions who believe that change begins when neighbors stand side by side. From Kibera to rural Nyanza, SHOFCO walked alongside communities as they claimed ownership of their future.

Turning 20: Two Decades of Grassroots Leadership
2024 was a remarkable year for SHOFCO. We celebrated our 20th anniversary while sharpening our focus on community-driven solutions. As Kennedy Odede notes in his opening letter, SHOFCO’s future is not about delivering services to people, but enabling people to drive their own solutions with dignity, agency, and power. From Kibera to 36 counties across Kenya, SHOFCO is walking alongside communities as they claim ownership of their future.

In 2023, SHOFCO marked 20 years of empowering communities, reaching over 2.4 million people across Kenya. From delivering clean water to advancing education, health, and financial services, SHOFCO’s holistic approach continues to transform lives in informal settlements.
